Well, it first started airing when I was 15. My crush at the time (who is now my bf) was always being called "Huey Freeman" because he had this huge ass afro and these thick eyebrows, and everyone in drama club was always quoting it. It sounded funny as hell so I managed to catch it one night. The first episode I ever saw was "A Date With the Health Inspector". It was love at first sight. haha.
I begged my mom for the first season box set and then bought myself the second season one on my 18th birthday. lol
Comic strip in the news paper when I was 11.
A late evening, I was flippin' the channels on tv when I saw a cartoon, and I was like "A cartoon at this time of day?". That's when I saw Riley and Huey. Two little black boys, one with an afro and one with braids. That's what got me stuck. The afro and the braids.
i stay in chicago so i use to see the billboards n buses full with adds of the boondocks, but i never watch it until one of my girls gave me a bootleg copy of the first season n from there i got hooked
I found it by watching the Trial of R. Kelly episode on Cartoon Network. It was awesome.
I started out following the daily comic strip in the newspaper when I was a kid. Comic strip ended, so I moved on to the show.
I was looking for porn... Not really though. I found this show when I was in a library looking for DVD's and books. I still don't know why it was at a library in the first place.

Initially, the comic strip. Around 1999, I remember seeing some news footage celebrating the launch of the first black nationally-run comic strip. I was happy for the brotha', but thought nothing more of it. Then, around 2002 or so, I saw Aaron McGruder on C-Span at the The State of the Black Union (or some panel discussion like it) & at the time, there was a lot of controversy over the issues presented in the strip--mainly 9/11. When I heard McGruder speak, I was like, "Is this dude trying to get his ass kicked?", but the things he said were very thought provoking. The fact that he was young & so bold blew my mind.
That same day, I decided to check out the strip and I couldn't believe I had been missing out on this phenomena! It's the kind of humor my frat brothers and I milked on a daily basis amongst ourselves & to see it on a national stage was CRAZY!

After about a year or so, I read the strip sorta sparingly. Then in 2005, I was passing by a magazine stand in Wal-Mart and saw the ad for the series. I was ecstatic that this sort of intelligence was being given the platform it deserves; right on the heels of Chappelle Show. I peeped the premiere that October & I swear it was like falling in love with Hip Hop all over again. I became a life-long fan of the series, the strip, & McGruder. (though I don't always agree with every point that's made, I can still respect it).
I use to buy Source magazine back in the day, before they went to shit. Caught a few clips there, and then the daily strips until that got pulled from the paper. Too late, I was hooked. Bought all graphic novels and the same with the DVDs.
One night bout 2 years ago i was flipping channels and stumbled upon a what i thought was some wierd japanesse cartoon until i saw huey and he called someone a n****a and i was hooked. being black you dont see this stuff like dis on tv. plus i saw regina king was doing the voices which i thought was cool
I used to read the comic strip in the newspapers, I didn't know at the time that it was created by a black man.
To be really honest, at the time I didn't care, only cuz at that time, I was basically homeless. I used to hang out at the library and just read the paper to pass the time in between searching for my next meal. I thought it was funny, but I was into other things. A couple of years later (after picking myself up and getting my shit together), while watching 'adult swim' I saw that commercial. "Jesus was black.........." My eyes got huge!! What?? I thought "Finally, a black cartoon from a black standpoint". I started watching it from the first episode. I was big into the PSP at the time, so I got the first season on UMD.
"SOURCE" magazine and the daily strips. Followed any McGruder news after that. "..Simple."
I've been diggin the cartoon for a while..a friend turned me on to it..
