Boondocks Bootleg - Unofficial Official Blog of The Boondocks

Now I have been a fan of the Boondocks since the first season and have seen every episode. It is the first animated cartoon that I have seen devoted toward African Americans and I love the characters especially Huey for his reserved attitude and likeness for martial arts. But after watching the 1st episode of season 3 about Obama and the first 10 minutes of the new episode about uncle Ruckus, im starting to feel a little insulted as a African American.Neither one of these episodes were funny to me and seemed just staight out disrespectful. Now dont get me wrong, I know the Boondocks has strong racial opinions but it worries me when it gets this serious.

Well in my opinion I don't think the Obama episode was racist. As a teenager in my point of view I think the episode was about people who voted for Obama because he was black. The Boondocks to me points out issues in Black society or, society in general, it's a satire cartoon, and it's kind of a ironic show. I can't really explain it, but I think all of the characters are referring to different people in society, like Riley he wants to be something that he's not, he's easily influence by rap music and, gangster movies( I guess). The issue Uncle ruckus is a self- hating black man. I am not going to tell you to not watch the show at all because i'm not that kind of person, but if you get so offended by it why choose to watch it??
Let's put it another way; is it impossible to to be critical of the behaviour of certain members of a ethnic identity without being called racist?

I mean, if I make a joke about dumb rappers that are also black, am I dissing rappers, or every person that's black? Am I saying that they're stupid if I say that a subset of people are stupid? It's a logical fallacy to say that 'W is dissing XYZ, therefore W hates Z'.

However, I think it's air enough to say that The Boondocks needs to look/think a bit longer before picking its targets. There are so many to choose from that if they want to, they can get a broad selection without looking like they have a vendetta against any particular mob (even if Aaron does, which is another story). What I liked about the comic is that it didn't rely on making stories; it hit home because it was just like real-life. That's why it was so powerful.

I'm an environmentalist living overseas and I could throw a dart at a map of rivers and make an episode about it.
is family guy being too racist, yea! but nobody say anything about them, hell i feel a little insulted as a African American, about family guy and there still on air , none of their episodes were funny to me!! i say this if boondocks goes off air, family has to go too!!!

I like Family Guy and I don't get offended by it either but I do agree with you. Nobody says anything about Family Guy so if they want to cancel The Boondocks then why not cancel Family guy too. This is what i'm trying to get out from this guy who asked this question. Not trying to be mean but, if this guy get so offended by the show then why watch it?? I mean there is thousands of shows out there.

Why does it worry you? Useless you voted for Obama because he was Black or something? I guess ill admit that sometimes, I feel a little shame during some episodes, but I think they go to the extreme to toughing black people up. Black people can be a lil too sensitive and sometimes dont see the BIGGER picture and want to only focus on petty stuff. I think the petty blacks are the ones who get really mad at nigga nigga nigga and other things that might offend the average non thinking black man like Robert & Riley.

To be honest, the boondocks are WAYYYY worse than BET.....worse than Tyler Perry Madea shows, and more harmful to African Americans than any show I've ever watched. How? First off, those who are NOT African Americans, but hate African Americans love to watch it. It justifies their racism of us and gives them new ideas and reasons to hate us. As for those who are not racist and have no ill feelings about Blacks....after watching the Boondocks, they will come away being saturated with more negative stereotypes about Blacks than they would ever get from any other show on TV!
There is no way to justify that show, except to say its just pure entertainment. Racist entertainment unfortunately at the cost of Blacks...but thats all it is.
I hate that crap they try to feed the "simple minded" about how the Boondocks is using only ignorance to promote intellectualism.
Only the nonintellectuals could actually believe this. lol
That is a crazy to hear them say that though! It is such a hypocritical show! Come on now....It speaks about the ills of the Black community, (eg. nigga moments) and uses the very people who perpetrate these actions in real life, (snoop dogg, lil' wayne ect.) to do voice overs for the characters!?!?! So even the people they are "supposedly criticizing don't even feel convicted (or offended) when doing voice-overs for the show. AND WHY IS THAT??! Because its really not doing what it purports to do! Cant you guys see that?! Come on, its not rocket science. If it was really criticizing these acts (as opposed to just holding them up for people to laugh at), then people like Lil' Wayne, Snoop, and anyone who sees the show would walk away with a clear message. Hell, even Jerry Springer gave a clear cut message at the end of his crazy show! This show doesn't. You have Huey...the one lone voice of reason, who's intellectualism is like 2% of the show. smh
Man yall can't see the hypocrisy in that? Really? People really fall for that, 'oh its helping show Black people how they act, so they can want to change? errr OK!

Look, Its just sad that the worse show ever to depict Blacks was written by a Black, and they have the temerity to try and tell us that their intention is to help Blacks?; to raise awareness???
What a shame no one can see this! But then again *sigh*...that's life.

If Black people didnt ACTUALLY do what Ive seen in this show, then yea Id call it racist...BUT, I have actually seen too many times where people in the black community have actually done some of the stupid stuff I have seen in this show. The Katrina people is real, ask anyone in Atlanta or Houston. Who doesnt know a 19-25 year old Riley in real life? Whats really bad is Riley is 8 yet I see grown men who say the things he says. Remember Luna and her instigating friend? Yep I know a few of those too. What about all the fake rappers who Thugnificent and Gangstalicious represents just turn on your local urban hip hop station in any market you will hear these guys and their fantasy stories about how many women they have, how much money they have, Mcgruder has money, Mcgruder gets money, but you would never know it by looking at him. Ill always support this show as long as it makes fun of the people that irritate me the most in the black community.

Haha, don't vote for Obama because he's black, jay. Vote for him because he isn't Republican.

There are thousands of shows about white people making fun of themselves. If you don't look at yourself and see anything wrong, then how can you change? The point of this show isn't just saying or pointing out what's wrong, it also gives some ideas of how it can be made better. I come from Australia and what a lot of people in the US don't get about our sense of humour is that we diss ourselves all the time. Google 'The Chaser' if you want an extreme example.

Boondocks shows you the problem, it's up to viewers to fix it.
