http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtH7vH4yRcYThis video brings up a few questions I've thought about, particularly where the Tea Party was when George W Bush was in office, especially during his second term. I know that Bush was criticized by the media, but you'd be lying if you said most of that wasn't deserved after eight years of failure. Not even after eight months in office were the Tea Party people ready to jump on Barack Obama. Even leading up to and after his presidential election were the petty allegations from the Birthers. I'm not saying our President is above reproach, but I'm wondering how many of these Party members were vocal when Dubya was doing his thing? When I first heard about them, I wanted to believe that the majority of the Tea Party have been pissed off for years but were only driven over the edge by the (in)actions of the current administration. Now though, I definitely think some members are motiviated by bias against his race and/or bias against his party affiliation.
So I ask you, if there had been a Tea Party dominated mainly by Black people during the Bush administration, would the media have portrayed it the same as now? Just a group of spirited, angry, vocal citizens who are deeply concerned about the future of the USA? Would it have even lasted? Would it have been hushed, broken up by the police or the government itself? Protesters greeted with tear gas or rubber bullets?
